Apr 24, 2023

It’s almost difficult to remember a time when the mainstream media was deemed trustworthy or “unbiased.” In the last 10 years, Americans have grown more and more wary of political leanings of major news sources. In fact, only 7% of U.S. adults say they have “a great deal” of trust in media, according to a Gallup survey. Only 29% of Americans have “a fair amount” of trust and confidence in newspapers, television and radio news reporting. Yikes! 3 out of every 4 American does not trust the media.

In terms of conservative media, more and more Americans are turning to smaller news websites, apps, podcasts and lesser known TV stations for ideological views that align with their family values, faith or simply the plain facts they see every day in the economy or in their local communities.

Top Conservative Websites and News Sources

We’ve done all the research and compiled a list of the top conservative news sources. If you’ve become disenchanted with the mainstream media, or with liberal-leaning news sites, check these out these top conservative news outlets below.

13. The Federalist

The Federalist is an American conservative news source, online magazine and podcast that covers politics, policy, culture, and religion, and publishes a newsletter. The site was co-founded by Ben Domenech and Sean Davis in 2013.

In June 2020, Google Ads warned The Federalist that it was considering demonetizing the website because of alleged racism in its comment section; The Federalist removed the comment section entirely, and Google announced that “no action will be taken”. In response, Domenech said: “We are really learning the degree to which Big Tech can be weaponized by woke mobs, or woke journalists in this case, to try to shut down places who disagree with their leftist agenda.”

12. The Epoch Times

One of the more controversial on our list, The Epoch Times was founded in 2000 by a Chinese American dissident named John Tang. The outlets describes itself as featuring “clear, fact-based journalism without spin or hidden agendas.”

The website originally sought to oppose the totalitarian rise of the Chinese Communist Party, while assisting Chinese Americans in assimilating to western values of the US. Searches for The Epoch Times surged in April of 2020 as the site was one of the first to criticize China’s role in the COVID pandemic.

11. Real Clear Politics

RealClearPolitics is an American political news website and polling data aggregator formed in 2000 by John McIntyre and Tom Bevan. According to its website, RealClear is an independent, non-partisan media company but many of its readers enjoy its right-leaning commentary and polling data that is often featured by larger outlets, including Fox News.

The site’s founders said their initial goal was to give readers “ideological diversity”. Since its founding, the organization has become one of the more reliable sources for election polling data for presidential and midterm elections.

10. RedState

RedState was founded in 2004 by conservative bloggers Joshua Treviño, Ben Domenech and Mike Krempasky. Popular conservative figure Erick Erickson later became the editor-in-chief and CEO in 2006. The website feature a blog-style format, which makes the articles easy to digest.

Since its founding, RedState organized in “RedState gatherings”, a summer convention for conservative activists which feature many prominent public figures and Republican candidates.

9. The Washington Times

Not to be confused with the Washington Post, this site has an emphasis on US politics. It’s a great source for current topics coming out of the White House and Congress. The Washington Times was founded on May 17, 1982, by Unification movement leader Sun Myung Moon and owned until 2010 by News World Communications, an international media conglomerate.

Throughout its history, The Washington Times has been known for its conservative political stance, which has drawn criticism from other larger, more liberal news outlets.

8. Breitbart

You might say Andrew Breitbart is the single most important figure in the formation of conservatism as we know it today. He was the first to act on and popularize the observation that politics is downstream from culture. Winning elections is necessary and good. But the culture is the real prize.

The news outlet he founded under his namesake in 2007 was all predicated on that belief. And it quickly became the conservative vanguard in the culture war. The site would go on to give a number of influential if controversial conservatives a platform, including Ben Shapiro, Milo Yiannopoulos, and Steve Bannon.

7. The Blaze

Former Fox News personality Glenn Beck started The Blaze in 2010 before merging it with Mark Levin’s Conservative Review TV in 2018, forming The Blaze Media as we know it today.

Like The Daily Wire, The Blaze has a deep bench of conservative talent streaming on its services, including Beck himself, Dave Rubin, Jason Whitlock, Steven Crowder, Allie Beth Stuckey, and that guy from Duck Dynasty, Phil Robertson.

6. The Daily Caller

Daily Caller was founded in 2010 by Fox commentator Tucker Carlson and his former college roommate Neil Patel, a former advisor to Vice President Dick Cheney. It was designed to attract young readers and serve as a contrarian perspective to Arianna Huffington’s liberal-leaning Huffington Post.

In 2016, Tucker Carlson became less involved with the daily operations of the site after taking on a more prominent, primetime role on Fox News.

5. The New York Post

One of the oldest newspapers, turned media giants, The Post was founded in 1801 by Alexander Hamilton, a leading figure of the Federalist Party. In 1976, The Post was acquired by Rupert Murdoch – the brain behind Fox News.

The Post was one of the original sources that published a Hunter Biden exposé, which was suppressed by social media outlets and big tech in an effort to protect Joe Biden just before the presidential election.

4. Newsmax

Founded in 1998 by Christopher Ruddy, Newsmax has always aspired to stand on equal footing with the gargantuan Fox News. And though that aspiration is unlikely to materialize anytime soon, on election night in November of 2020, Fox News did indeed grant Newsmax an opening.

You may recall how some conservatives became disenchanted with Fox News after the network announced that the key-swing-state of Arizona would be won by Biden when only 73% of the state’s votes were in. That call for Biden came in hours before the Associated Press and days before most major networks made the same declaration.

3. Fox News

Fox is easily the largest news site for conservative commentary. In fact, it boasts more TV viewers than any other major news channel including CNN, NBC and others. Fox also has streaming media options as well, which have become popular in recent years.

Due to its sheer size and influence, Fox has been able to garner an audience that is moderate, conservative and even sometimes liberal. Their stories are regularly featured on Facebook, TV and TikTok; and the outlet boasts popular primetime commentators like Sean Hannity and Tucker Carlson, who provide breaking news on a nightly basis.

2. Rumble

While not a newspaper or news outlet in the traditional sense, Rumble is an online video platform and conservative news website with headquarters in Florida. It was founded in October 2013 by Chris Pavlovski, a technology entrepreneur from Canada. They also feature a cloud services business that is known for hosting Truth Social, the app that was started by Donald Trump, and has been described as part of their “alt-tech” platform.

Because video has become a primary channel for content, Rumble has seen tremendous growth in viewership with more than 80 million visitors to their website every month and is often cited on Reddit conservative threads.

1. The Daily Wire

It was Andrew Breitbart who introduced the polemical wunderkind Ben Shapiro to the business-minded producer Jeremy Boreing in 2009. After a couple job stints here and there, the pair would form The Daily Wire in 2015 with a focus on personality driven journalism and digital distribution optimization, specifically on Facebook.

The Daily Wire is one of the fastest growing news outlets in the world, featuring high profile guest like Candace Owens and Dennis Prager. But most of its prominence is driven by Shapiro, who has become a figurehead of conservative media. The website boasts over 40 million visitors each month and continues to grow in popularity.
