The 50 best family beaches in Cape Cod (2024)

The resort Chatham Bars Inn offers a kid's program, spa & farm-fresh food. They have tennis courts, a private beach, bike paths, and many water sports to keep the little ones busy all summer long. The resort is also home to educational activities such as seal watching and clam digging.

We had a great stay for Easter Weekend. The property was filled with blooming trees and daffodils. The property was peaceful and our room was spotless and comfortable. We loved the breakfast buffet and the views from the dining room are so beautiful! We can’t wait to visit again someday.

We’d heard many great reports about this hotel, which seems to be THE place to stay in Cape Cod over the summer. We just visited for three nights over Thanksgiving. We were very happy to have been offered a free upgrade to our superior cottage room to an ocean view in Harbor Watch. Unfortunately the room didn’t quite live up to expectations. The ceiling had a leak (signs of at least two there before), bathroom tiles were broken and the window shutters didn’t work very well. The room was also lower ground floor with creaky floors above and thin walls to the neighboring room. The beds were comfortable, there’s a good TV, coffee machine and the bathroom was ‘ok’ otherwise. What is without doubt 5* at the hotel is the service. With one or two exceptions, all staff seemed delighted to help and always attentive to your needs. You can’t book at the Tavern but we managed to get a table for two nights around 5.30pm. It does get busy but there always seemed to be space. The breakfast is great, with a buffet ($42) or menu option. There’s a lovey festive feel to the hotel with all the Christmas decorations up. The large sitting room in the hotel is a lovely space for before and after dinner but it can get busy. The nearby town of Chatham is beautiful and there’s lots of great beach walks nearby.Overall definitely worth a visit but peak season prices will seem a lot unless they fix the room standards.

We had an amazing weekend getaway here, the customer service is absolute top notch and everyone we came in contact with went above and beyond. Being in the customer service industry myself I was extremely impressed! The location can’t be beat and it’s only a few minutes walk into town. The only negative was our room Size- we stayed in the Main Inn, the room was super clean but very tiny for almost $800 a night we were expecting a little more spacious room..but we know for next time.We will certainly be returning!

We have stayed a few times now and the Chatham Bars Inn does not disappoint. We have stayed in a few different style rooms and locations on the campus, and they all offer the same superb quality. The rooms are bright, clean and open with many eases of access options within them (location, coffee maker, various plug locations for chargers, bathroom accessories, etc.). The beds are very comfortable and will not ruin your night of sleep! The views from the beach house rooms are breathtaking and offer the most beautiful sunrise each morning (for the early risers). The services offered at the pool are great and there are plenty of towels and seats. The lobby is clean and has a ton of helpful staff. The restaurants are great and offer a decent selection of food, and the chef even offered to change the taste of the mac and cheese for our youngest one at our last visit.Room service is friendly and fast, and the food is good.Valet is a great feature and there is a good parking lot to self-park if you'd like (a little bit of a walk though). All in all, it is a must stay and plenty of fun and offerings year-round.

Beautiful grounds, incredibly helpful concierge & it’s right on the beach & a short walk from downtown. The first night we stayed in the main inn which was nice, but we were in a room with no view except for the roof. There was a strange loud noise that kept going on and off throughout the night. The rest of the trip we stayed in a beachfront cottage which was lovely. The view was amazing & serene, and we were blessed with wonderful weather. The one thing about our cottage was that the lattice was beginning to show wear and was a bit loose, a little scary to lean on, and the deck needed painting. The decor, beds & bathroom were lovely. We wanted a low key, quiet family vacation and CBI delivered. We will definitely be back!

I was whisked away to one of these seaside cottages for our one year wedding anniversary. Honestly I've never felt so cared for. We had handwritten notes in our room, chilled champagne, chocolates on our pillow at night and woke up to some of the most beautiful sunrises looking out over the ocean. I had never been to Chatham before but I have to admit I loved being there in the off season when you got to take your time eating a delicious five course meal and having the entire spa pool to yourself. Thank you to the staff for the small things like pulling out my chair at dinner and conversing with me about favorite books at the pool.

Another great dining experience at Stars for our son's eighteenth birthday. Five course dinner menu was absolutely delicious. Many thanks to the chefs and servers for a memorable outing for us!

We had a great lunch on the veranda May 2023. It was a bit chilly but the view was worth it! Drinks were lovely and the staff was very accommodating. Really nice spot, pricey but lovely.

Long a fan of this historic inn, I was able to stop by there with my family this weekend for some snacks and co*cktails at the Beach House Grill and was amazed with the new menu items and service! Val at the bar was very responsive, courteous, and attentive to us even when there were three rows of patrons waiting for their drinks and dishes due to it being the nicest day of the year. Can't recommend the the lobster nachos enough, we even took them home and enjoyed the leftovers a few hours later! If you're looking for an authentic Cape Cod experience that celebrates the rich history of Chatham and the outer cape, this is where you should be coming every season. Gary and his team continue to hit it out of the park with this wonderful property, we'll be regulars!

Just stopped by with family to have a co*cktail and clam chowder on the sandy area below deck bar. Had the kids so it was better to be where we were. Great environment, chowder was excellent, our waitress Jenny was outstanding. Kids could play and walk to beach area as well. Some outdoor music would have been nice. Great place to relax with friends and family but bring your $$ as nothing is inexpensive here. Still a must experience if you visit area.

Cape in a nutshell. Beautiful views, amazing staff. Just a great place to enjoy the drink. This place for sure must be in your list when you are in cape. I make it a must to be there. The bartender was really sweet and made our experience even better.

Chatham Bars is a gracious old inn overlooking the water in Chatham. We really enjoyed our time here. Serrvice is excellent, location amazing and the food is top notch. The property is pretty expansive, so your room may be in the main inn or it may be in one of their houses overlooking the water. We stayed in room 432 and our only minor issue was the bathroom. There is absolutely no bathroom shelf space to put anything on. Toiletries, toothbrushes, razors and grooming all have to be kept in your bag on the floor. The tile in the tub was also chipping and popping up in places. All those are minor complaints, but when you're spending over $800 an evening you expect close to perfect. None the less it is an amazing location and an amazing property.

Chatham Bars is an excellent resort in a great location with beach access and lots to do. Staff was very helpful and the view from the restaurant outside deck is superb, overlooking the water. The only negative was that we paid $4,510 for two nights, thinking that this rate was for a room with a water view; however, upon arrival we were told that we were going to be in spa room toward the back of the property, which was very spacious and well equipped, including a steam room and hot tub and a nice pool for the rooms in that area of the resort. It was a short walk to the restaurant and beach, but just without the great view that we expected.

An amazingly beautiful location. The staff and the food were wonderful! We didn’t have time to wander through town but loved that it was so close and it looked like fun.

Two night weekend stay, February 2022. Room type was Main Inn Ocean View Suite. Overall, this is a beautiful historic resort almost 110 years old so vintage charm is to be expected. The Main Inn Ocean View Suites on the top floor have private balconies overlooking the ocean, just know that the Main Inn is set back from the water on a hill, and is too far away too hear the waves. We enjoyed dinner at the Sacred Cod restaurant and both breakfast and dinner delivered via room service. All of the food was very good and service was outstanding. Everyone who works there was exceedingly professional, friendly, and helpful. The suite’s furniture was lovely, and both the bed itself and the bedding were some of the most comfortable we’ve experienced. Luxury touches like bathrobes, slippers, and a Nespresso machine added to the experience.Considering our winter stay, I cannot comment on the beach, pool, any of the seasonally closed restaurants, or other outdoor amenities. We did make use of the hotel’s complimentary valet parking and found the location convenient for a day trip to Provincetown.

Our stay at Chatham Bars Inn was made excellent by Ms. Mackenzie Frazier. When we first checked in on Sunday evening we were directed to a cottage that my husband had reserved 6 months prior. Unfortunately, the cottage did not meet our expectations, and because we had guests joining us the next day for a birthday celebration, we were extremely anxious. We contacted the front desk and were told there were no alternatives available. We started looking at other properties to salvage our plans with our guests. Fortunately, this is when Mackenzie stepped up and coordinated new accommodations for us and our guests. We could not be more grateful. We had a fantastic stay for 4 days at CBI. We enjoyed the restaurants, the concierge was very helpful, the valets took great care in shuttling us around, the restaurant/bar staff was wonderful and the housekeeping staff prepared our rooms beautifully each day with small surprises left on our pillows each night. We could have missed out on all of this if not for Mackenzie! Our guests are local and will definitely be returning after their experience as well.

Absolutely delicious and beautiful view. Service was great and quality food was wonderful. Really loved the burratA, Mac and cheese and scallops as well as the drinks. We’re seated on the beach which was really nice. Definitely recommend if in the area or going to Chatham

We rarely miss an opportunity while at the Cape to have lunch at the beach bar. The food is outstanding, service impeccable and the million dollar view just can’t be matched anywhere!!Looking forward to this year’s visit!!

Spent at lovely Sunday afternoon eating at the Beach House Grill and 10/10 suggest. The service was impeccable, the food and drinks were phenomenal and the place was lively as can be. The attention to detail was standout and the property is stunning. It was my first time visiting Chatham Bars Inn and it will not be my last!

A somewhat disappointing trip. I have been coming here for years since I was a child and this last trip was pretty disappointing for us.While our room was very clean and very comfortable, the walls are paper thin. We could hear people sitting in the room next to us talking and laughing. They weren't being excessively loud. Just having a nice conversation (which we could hear almost every word to). This made us feel like we had zero privacy. We got there at 12:30 and was told our room would be put in as a priority for the cleaning crew because we were preferred members and had arrived early in hopes that the room could be ready earlier. I completely understand that there are no guarantees, but our room wasn't ready until 30 minutes past the guarantee check in time of 4:00. When I brought this to the attention of the manager he was very condescending and said housekeeping called the room in clean at 4:01 and we were handed our keys at 4:11. This was not the case. They called us at 4:20 to come pick up the keys and we did not get into our room til 4:30.I was only offered a $100 credit from the pompous manager for the next time we come though we doubt will come again. For $1400 a night I would expect top level service and this just wasn't it.I do have to say our waiter and valet were phenomenal. Luke our valet went above and beyond when we arrived to make us feel welcomed and treated us the way you would expect from a luxury hotel.

We were gifted two nights in a cute little cottage down by the water. The place was clean and cozy with amazing views of the water. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. Will definitely stay here again and would recommend this to anyone visiting Chatham!

My wife and I had dinner at the Sacred Cod which is a local favorite of ours and while the food and service was excellent, the restaurant was crowded, noisy, and full of children who didn't want to be there and parents who were not paying attention.Given the number of families that vacation at Chatham Bars, it would be best to reserve a section of the restaurant for families and perhaps to reserve some of the tables in the bar area for adults. This would make for a more relaxing and more enjoyable dining experience for all.

Just got back from a birthday getaway trip and have nothing but great things to say about our stay at the Inn. Everything from the valet to front desk, room, food, decor and service were top notch. We stayed in Beach Cottage 371 which had incredible views of the ocean and was well appointed. Loved the complimentary car service into town. Make sure to call weeks in advance for a spa appt. The charm of CBI during the holidays is not to be missed.

This place is top notch in every way, from the minute we pulled in,everyone was accommodating, the valet, the front desk and the wait staff were more than eager to make you feel very welcome with a huge smile. We stayed in one of the ocean view cottage suits and the view is breathtaking, the attention to every detail in this accommodation is unbelievable,by far the best I’ve ever seen, the bed,the fireplace, the bathroom, everything was just in a high class by itself.Overall I would give it five stars since it’s the highest I can rate it,and the complimentary ride that they give you around in one of their Lexus fleet cars was just the icing on the cake. This is a world class luxury right here on Cape Cod.

I spent this past weekend staying two nights at this luxury resort. We had two ocean side cottages. They each had a gaslit fireplace and two flat screen TV's. They were cozy and comfortable rooms. We spent Friday night at the tavern in the main resort. The drinks and burgers were delicious! Even though the weather was crummy, we enjoyed the view, coffee drinks by the fire in the main house and a movie in our room. Saturday night we went to a local restaurant called Delmar. The resort again dropped us at the restaurant and picked us up to bring us back after dinner! The other bonuses were the great showers and the beds felt like we were sleeping on clouds!! So incredibly comfortable!! Whether we were at the front desk, having turn down service or getting ice delivered we were greeted with a smile and kindness! What an incredible experience! We highly recommend this slice of life in Chatham, Massachusetts 😁❤️

We met friends last night at Chatham Bars Inn to have dinner at the Sacred Cod. We were told that no reservations were accepted and arrived at 5:15 and were prepared to wait. We were told the wait was one hour. We grabbed some drinks and sat in the lobby. We checked in with the hostess about 45 min into our wait and was told by the hostess that they gave our table to a party who walked in and insisted on being seated immediately. During this entire time there was an empty table for four. After checking in again at one hour and 15 min we were told that we needed to wait a bit longer. We asked about the empty table and was told that it was reserved for an important person. Keep in mind they do NOT take reservations. They were understaffed for the busy holiday weekend. We understand this is an ongoing issue but to be treated the way we were has resulted in us not ever wanting to go back. Do better…#chathambarsinn

My first time discovering CBI was absolutely a dream. The location is beautiful. The service was great, from front desk, valet, food and beverage, and housekeeping. The ladies at the spa were also great! We stayed in the White Cap with a living room space, 2 fire places, and large bathroom with double sinks and large bathtub. We dined at the Sacred Cod for lunch and co*cktails. We dined at Stars for breakfast and dinner, we also did in room dining twice. It was all so perfect. I totally recommend this place for a romantic get away or even a girls trip! I can’t wait to come back with warmer weather and be poolside! Thank you to ALL CBI staff. Special thanks to, Chef Ben, our AM server, Orasis, and the director of F&B for allowing us to feel at home! Totally 5 star property and hospitality experience to remember :)

One of the best hotels we’ve visited in the US. The services, including room service, in-room dining, and general staff attitude are on great European level (speaking from experience). We’ve got a spa room for entire weekend and had a great time. We will certainly return here during summer months.
