90s Brady 6.5" Jarrah Ply Snare Drum - 6.5 x 14 | Reverb
Here is a drum for the collectors! An early 1990's treasure. Original Brady Jarrah Ply Snare Drum 6.5 x 14 Overall this masterpiece is in very good to excellent used condition. The shell is perfectly in round and the bearing edges look fantastic. Chrome is clea...

I believe this is a Jarrah Block... I have never seen such a thick bearing edge on a Brady ply.
Also the snare does not look like a 6 1/2

It doesn't look like a block construction to me. It is the wrong wood grain orientation for that.

100% Jarrah Ply snare drum in the Cherry Gloss finish on the outside, natural on the inside. I have owned many of these drums.

Is there any difference between the older 1990's and the newer Jarrah with the little guy instead of the rectangular badge

While not that easy to see on the pic, perhaps, my Brady 12 x 7 Sheoak block shell
shows wider thickness than the plies on that Jarrah snare...

The shell looks legit. I’ve had a few and they looked the same. But, the lugs and hoops sure don’t look original. Apart from some few very early models every Brady I have come across had the tube lugs and triple-flange hoops. Those look like Yamaha lugs from some mid level model. Strainer and badge is the same as my snares and kit had.

The difference is the badge and strainer. Shells are the same.

The older the wood. The more mature.
I have seen the Brady with Yamaha Birch Custom (pro level) & Stage Custom Advantage (mid to pro level) lugs before. Probably a request by the original owner, as they detune less quicker than tube lugs.
Brady has had several badges over the years.
This being the first or second, if the layout of the rectangular badge has changed.
The shell looks to be a thicker ply or solid shell.
This my Jarrah Block snare form the inside. It is slightly thicker then a Solid Ply and blocks are more visible.

Definitely not a jarrah block snare.
But it doesn't really look like a ply shell either. Look at the joint. I remember seeing this uneven ply joint only on single ply drums. Also, I don't see separate plys on bearing edge, although on dark drums is sometimes difficult.
Not saying that this is a single ply drum, especially since I don't ever remember seeing a single ply jarrah snare, thought that it's too dense to steambend.
I dunno...maybe it's not Brady. That badge would be pretty easy to manufacture.

My Brady block snare has dovetailed blocks that are easily seen at bearing edges level. That alone would suggest the snare in question in not a Brady block snare but a ply snare.

Did some more detective work. There is a Brady ply drum for sale in Ireland with the same era badge (including correct lugs). This picture is from that drum. Notice the dead straight ply joint running along the shell. This is what a ply should look like.
Too many red flags on the drum that the original posted linked. It definitely doesn't look like a Brady ply snare to me.

it does inherit more of a solid ply without re-rings, now I have paid closer attention to the seam. This is a Craviotto Solid Ply seam.
I wouldn't call it red flags. Just that it is most likely solid instead of multiple plies.
Time for Kelly to jump in the talk and hopefully remember/having something in the archives about this snare.

I just have never heard about a Brady single ply snare. They have produced carved solid snares, but not bent single drums to my knowledge. I might be wrong of course, but if I had to bet, I would put my money on that not being a Brady shell.
Hopefully Kelly will chime in.

- Correct. Also, you can see, in the bearing edge photos, that the grain runs around the edge as well. That doesn't happen on block drums.

I have owned several dozen of these drums...it is 100% a Jarrah ply Brady shell. Take that to the bank.

My bet is on a solid shell Because of the seam, thickness and absence of multiple ply rings on the bearing edge.
Regardless Brady make or not.

Never ever have I seen a ply drum with uneven ply seam running across the shell like that. Can you explain that detail?
How would one even manufacture such a shell?
