Sam Rowlands MS encourages communities to help brighten up parts of the city (2024)

Sam Rowlands, Member of the Welsh Parliament for North Wales, calls on residents in Wrexham to get involved in sprucing up the city for two national competitions.

Following the success in 2023 when Wrexham won gold in the Wales in Bloom competition, Wrexham County Borough Council’s team is now getting ready for entering this year’s event and has also been invited to represent Wales in the Britain in Bloom competition going up against London and Dundee.

Mr Rowlands, a keen supporter of the environment and nature said:

Wrexham did really well last year thanks to the council team and the many residents who turned up to help and I hope the same will happen this time.

I think it is great to get communities involved so they can actually see the fruits of their labours and once again put the wonderful city of Wrexham firmly on the national map.

I would urge anyone interested in getting involved in this year’s Wales in Bloom and Britain in Bloom competitions to get in touch with the council.

The biggest part of both competitions is community involvement and the council asking residents and community groups on the route for their assistance.

The route this year will call at several venues and gardens including Wrexham Crematorium, Wrexham Recycling Centre, Erlas Walled Garden, Rhosnesni High School and Wrexham City Centre.

Last year they had groups conducting litter picks, gardening competitions, planting up areas and hanging baskets to improve their area.

The competitions aims to make Wrexham environmentally friendly by eliminating graffiti, dog fouling, fly posting and promoting sustainable planting and floral displays to make Wrexham a more beautiful place to live and visit.

The council is also offering sponsorship opportunities for businesses as they try to find ways to help support both campaigns. All sponsors will get their name on a planter for a year and will be acknowledged in related Wales in Bloom publicity which is an excellent advertising opportunity as well as improving the environment in Wrexham.

Local businesses and public houses are also being invited to take part and there will be a floral competition free for all city centre shops, establishments and public houses within the borough to enter.

From lush floral planters to unique hanging baskets, all are welcome to enter the competition. This will help to create a celebration of colour and creativity within the town centre, with all entrants receiving a certificate or award.

Over the next couple of months the team will be carrying out different events such as free seed giveaways, children’s trails around the City Centre, volunteer days, free compost giveaways and many more. Please keep a look out on the Councils face book page for more information.

Sam Rowlands AS yn annog cymunedau i helpu i fywiogi rhannau o'r ddinas

Mae Sam Rowlands, Aelod o’r Senedd dros Ogledd Cymru, yn galw ar drigolion Wrecsam i gyfrannu at dacluso’r ddinas ar gyfer dwy gystadleuaeth genedlaethol.

Yn dilyn llwyddiant yn 2023 pan enillodd Wrecsam fedal aur yng nghystadleuaeth Cymru yn ei Blodau, mae tîm Cyngor Bwrdeistref Sirol Wrecsam bellach yn paratoi ar gyfer cymryd rhan yn y digwyddiad eleni ac mae hefyd wedi cael gwahoddiad i gynrychioli Cymru yng nghystadleuaeth Prydain yn ei Blodau yn erbyn Llundain a Dundee.

Meddai Mr Rowlands, sy’n gefnogwr brwd i’r amgylchedd a natur:

Fe wnaeth Wrecsam yn dda iawn y llynedd diolch i dîm y cyngor a'r trigolion niferus a ddaeth i helpu a gobeithio y bydd yr un peth yn digwydd y tro hwn.

Mae’n wych cael cymunedau i gymryd rhan fel eu bod yn gallu gweld ffrwyth eu llafur ac unwaith eto rhoi dinas wych Wrecsam yn amlwg ar y map cenedlaethol.

Byddwn yn annog unrhyw un sydd â diddordeb mewn cymryd rhan yng nghystadlaethau Cymru yn ei Blodau a Phrydain yn ei Blodau eleni i gysylltu â'r cyngor.

Prif elfen y ddwy gystadleuaeth yw cynnwys y gymuned ac mae'r cyngor yn gofyn i drigolion a grwpiau cymunedol am eu cymorth ar y daith.

Bydd y llwybr eleni yn galw mewn sawl lleoliad a gardd gan gynnwys Amlosgfa Wrecsam, Canolfan Ailgylchu Wrecsam, Gardd Furiog Erlas, Ysgol Uwchradd Rhosnesni a Chanol Dinas Wrecsam.

Y llynedd roedd grwpiau yn cynnal sesiynau casglu sbwriel, cystadlaethau garddio, plannu ardaloedd a basgedi crog i wella eu hardal.

Nod y cystadlaethau yw gwneud Wrecsam yn ecogyfeillgar trwy ddileu graffiti, baw cŵn, gosod posteri'n anghyfreithlon a hyrwyddo plannu cynaliadwy ac arddangosfeydd blodau i wneud Wrecsam yn lle mwy prydferth i fyw ac ymweld ag ef.

Mae'r cyngor hefyd yn cynnig cyfleoedd nawdd i fusnesau wrth iddyn nhw geisio dod o hyd i ffyrdd o helpu i gefnogi'r ddwy ymgyrch. Bydd pob noddwr yn cael ei enw ar blannwr am flwyddyn ac yn cael eu cydnabod mewn deunydd cyhoeddusrwydd cysylltiedig Cymru yn ei Blodau sy'n gyfle hysbysebu rhagorol yn ogystal â gwella'r amgylchedd yn Wrecsam.

Mae busnesau lleol a thafarndai hefyd yn cael eu gwahodd i gymryd rhan a bydd cystadleuaeth flodau am ddim i holl siopau, sefydliadau a thafarndai canol y ddinas gystadlu ynddi.

O blanwyr blodau ffrwythlon i fasgedi crog unigryw, mae croeso i bawb gymryd rhan yn y gystadleuaeth. Bydd hyn yn helpu i greu dathliad o liw a chreadigrwydd yng nghanol y dref, gyda phob ymgeisydd yn derbyn tystysgrif neu wobr.

Dros yr ychydig fisoedd nesaf bydd y tîm yn cynnal digwyddiadau gwahanol fel rhoddion hadau am ddim, llwybrau plant o amgylch Canol y Ddinas, diwrnodau gwirfoddoli, rhoddion compost am ddim a llawer mwy. Cadwch olwg ar dudalen facebook y Cyngor am ragor o wybodaeth.

Os oes gennych chi ddiddordeb mewn helpu gydag Ymgyrch Prydain yn ei Blodau a Chymru yn ei Blodau neu noddi cylchfan neu blannwr yna cysylltwch â Nicola Ellis ar 01978 729638 neu e-bostiwch nicola.ellis@wrexham.gov.uk.
