His lectures were organized, but he would sometimes go off topic and ramble to himself. You won't know what your grade is unless you go to him and ask because he doesn't upload it to canvas. He grades on improvement and most of your grade will be based on in class vocabulary assignments, 3-4 essays and 3 exams. The class is pretty easy.

Lecture heavy. Hard exams that were in the green book. (5 summaries and two essays in one lecture period) The class was way too difficult for a GE course. There were also discussions but those were easy. He rambles a lot. He put no grades in until they were due and suggested we calculate our own. Wouldn't take it unless you had to.

Reviews scared me but it wasn't so bad, easy grader and he's a fun guy. Discussion posts every week is just the norm at this point so I don't hold that against him, the exams were honestly not too bad except the first one since I didn't study enough but after that it was a breeze.

He doesn't input grades onto Canvas until the end of the semester (to know your present grade you need to ask him about it.) Exams are free-response and essay questions so I recommend flashcards/active recall to study for his exams, but he says he's an "easy grader" so take that however you want. You need to read a book during fall/spring break.

My best friend was google and that should never be the case ever. We are paying to attend school and therefore he should be giving us more access to not only just his lectures, but even more materials, not just the textbook. In actuality, most students don't read the book and the fact that he makes it test heavy doesn't help either.

Lots of weekly reading, which is important for class participation. However, a lot of the information that you need for the essays will come from in class lecture. If you are not a history major, attendance will be key to pass. Grading is primarily on 3 major essays, midterm, final and site paper. As a person he is understanding if you communicate.

I have had Professor Schraff two times now, and I have just signed up for another class with him next semester. He is a great guy and a good professor. Many say that he talks and talks but honestly, all the answers are in his lectures. He makes it very hard to fail, in my opinion. But, of course, if you don't show up, you will be lost.

This professor made learning in his class increasingly difficult and was not open to new historical perspectives. As a student of color, I often was baffled by his ignorance and close-mindedness, and this impaired my ability to learn as I did not feel comfortable within my class environment. The book and the ideas presented in class are outdated.

Hes extremely disorganized, lectures are all over the place. Theres a lot of readings, lecture slides arent posted so be ready to write down bullet points from the slides and go over readings to better understand the lecture. He assigns a new chapter every week. Midterms consists of essays, so be prepared to write a 2-3 page paper in an hour.

This class was a struggle for me. There is a lot of chapter reading every week. Also lectures are very broad, so be sure to write the bullet points but also do some reading to comprehend the lectures. Lectures are not recorded, and slides only display points -- rather than the specific details of the topic.

Shraff is extremely disorganized. You find yourself tuning out of his lectures because he doesn't know how to lead you through different points. Its pretty much impossible to figure out what to focus on through his lecture, so you have to just read the entire book by yourself to test well.

One of my favorite Professors from the great History department at CSULB. Professor Schraff is a Professor who genuinely cares about his students and worked with a number of us despite the difficulties of Covid this past year. I took his American Cultural History class and thoroughly enjoyed the subject and readings we went over in class.

I took Rob Schraff for 488, I don't care what people say about him, I enjoyed his class. He's a hip dude, and treats the class like a seminar. The assigned reading is trippy, you learn a lot, I certainly did about specific laws and foundations. Just be open minded, read and participate. Easy as that

Rob is disorganized and lacks the ability to teach theory to his students. Would give you so much to read mere days before and expected you to know everything. Grades took forever and received little to no feedback on the papers. With 302 as a core requirement for history majors, I would avoid Rob at all cost. You will learn literally nothing!

Rob Schraff is one of the worst professors I have ever had! This guy does not have a clue how to teach. His "lectures" don't help his students learn the material at all. You pretty much have to teach yourself everything in this class. He makes you read so many pages between every class. He only graded 2/6 of my papers. Grade fell A/B somehow...

He can't teach the subject well. I sat in class most of the time doing nothing because his lectures are just subheadings in the textbook. I had to learn everything online. You have to teach yourself if you want to pass the class.

There were three short response papers, a midterm, a historical site paper, & a final. He would assign 2-3 chapters to read a week. Hed email the readings Sat or Sun & expect them to be done by the next class meeting. Go to office hours and be THAT kiss-ass student. Talk about the prompts with him and hell help you A LOT. I got an A.

This was the first history class I took after transferring from a different school. Really impacted the way I initially perceived the history department at CSULB. However, after experiencing other amazing professors, I've come to the conclusion that I was just unlucky when picking 301 with Rob. Teaching isn't for him. Worst professor Ive ever taken

This dude could be funny at times, but I would avoid taking any of his classes. He has the voice of an awesome professor (if that makes sense) but lacks the teaching aspect. All his classes are just going over what the student was supposed to "read", no PPT slides, nothing. Takes forever to grade the assignments, even the 1-page assignments.
